This pretty, colorful strawberry trifle is made with simple custard, whipped cream, and early fresh strawberries. Traditional trifles are flavored with sherry or brandy but this one is liquor-free: perfect for kids of all ages!

What You'll Need

2 quarts fresh strawberries (about 8 cups)
2 teaspoons sugar
30 ladyfingers
1 cup strawberry preserves
2 cups prepared vanilla pudding or custard
Sweetened whipped cream

How to Make It

    Reserve 5 strawberries.  Slice the remaining strawberries.  Stir the sugar and the sliced strawberries in a medium bowl.  Let stand for 30 minutes.

    Layer half the ladyfingers, half the preserves, half the sliced strawberry mixture and half the pudding in a 3-quart trifle dish or glass bowl.  Repeat the layers.  Garnish with the whipped cream and reserved strawberries.  Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
